Introduction
We took a trip to the Grand Buddha of Leshan, the largest Buddha in the world. Located about two hours outside of Chengdu, it was built by monks and villagers in 713 AD at the confluence of two raging rivers. The hope was that Buddha would calm the currents and make the river safer. In addition to the Buddha, the grounds of the park contained temples, cliff sculptures, and tranquil gardens.
